The MG4 EV: An impressive electric car in an affordable package

The MG4 EV is a compact electric car that rivals big names like Kia, Nissan and Volkswagen. With its sharp styling, spacious interior and impressive efficiency, it is one of the best electric cars on the market. This article explores the MG4 EV’s features, its performance, pricing, charging options and much more.

Design and Style

The first thing that stands out about the MG4 EV is its sharp and stylish appearance. The vehicle is available in six distinctive colours, including the all-new Volcano Orange. The car has an Active Grille System, which regulates airflow to the front of the car to achieve optimal battery range. The MG4 EV also has a twin black roof and a Twin Aero Rear Spoiler, which contribute to its unique, modern look.

Interior and Comfort

Thanks to its thin battery and long wheelbase, the MG4 EV offers plenty of headroom and generous amounts of legroom. The vehicle is equipped with a 10.25-inch colour touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, providing full connectivity at your fingertips. Behind the Rotary Gear Selector is a wireless charging pad, adding to the car’s unique, modern interior space.

Performance and efficiency

The MG4 EV is available with three different battery sizes (51kWh, 64kWh, or 77kWh), and four different power outputs. Depending on which model you choose, the electric driving range goes from 250km for the 51kWh SE to 400km for the 77kWh Extended Range. All versions have quick-charge capability, allowing quick top-ups for those looking to take longer trips.

Safety and Driving Assistance

The MG4 EV is equipped with an advanced suite of driving assistance systems, called MG Pilot, to ensure a safe, relaxing and comfortable driving experience. These systems include Active Emergency Braking with pedestrian and bicycle detection, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning System, Traffic Jam Assist, Intelligent Speed Limit Assist with traffic sign recognition, Intelligent High Beam Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, Driver Attention Alert, Blind Spot Detection, Lane Change Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Door Opening Warning.

Charging and Range

With a range of up to 450km on a single charge and two battery options, the MG4 EV is a no-compromise electric car. The vehicle can be charged using a normal wall plug or a charging station. The speed at which the EV can charge depends on the charging station used and the maximum charging capacity of the EV. The MG4 EV can be charged from 10% to 80% in just 35 minutes using a 150kW Ultra-Fast charger. The MG4’s standard AC charging capacity is 11kW. This allows you to charge the car at home in about 6 hours (0 – 100%). Do use a suitable MG4 charging cable with type 2 plug and suitable for 3-phase charging up to at least 16A.

Price and availability

The MG4 hatchback is one of the cheapest electric cars on the market, with prices starting around £27,000. This is an impressive achievement, considering that the MG4 has a much roomier interior than its rivals, plus a similar range and an extensive standard equipment list.

The MG4 EV is one of the best electric cars on the market today. It comes with a generous amount of equipment and a decent range for the money, plus it is spacious and surprisingly fun to drive. If you’re looking for a stylish small car with ultra-low running costs, the MG4 EV is definitely worth considering.
